Most people qualify for low-cost ACA coverage.

The 3 goals of the ACA

Why the ACA exists.

01

Expand access

Make affordable health insurance available to more people, regardless of income or employment status.

02

Improve quality of care

Ensure that all health plans meet minimum standards for coverage and consumer protections.

03

Reduce healthcare costs

Lower long-term healthcare spending through preventive care, tax credits, and cost-sharing reductions.

What the ACA covers

Essential health benefits included in every plan.

All ACA-compliant health plans are required to cover these essential services.

Primary care doctor visits

Mental health services

Hospitalization

Outpatient procedures

Pregnancy and newborn care

Urgent care visits

Prescription drugs

Specialist visits

Pediatric care

Preventive and wellness services

Key protections

The ACA protects you.

Pre-existing conditions covered

No insurance plan can reject you, charge you more, or refuse to pay for any health condition you had before your coverage start date.

No lifetime or annual limits

Insurance companies can no longer set a dollar limit on what they cover for your healthcare during the entire time you are enrolled.

Free preventive care visits

All Marketplace health plans must cover preventive care services without charging you a copay or coinsurance.

Young adults stay covered

Adults under 26 can remain on their parent's health insurance plan, even if they are married, financially independent, or no longer living at home.

Enrollment periods

When you can enroll.

Premium tax credits

Monthly subsidies that lower your insurance premium based on your income and household size.

Cost-sharing reductions

Extra savings that lower the amount you pay for deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
